Water Crisis Deepens in Gaza Amid War With Israel: Report

The war in Gaza has turned water into a “tool of war,” according to Al Jazeera. Palestinians struggle daily to find clean water. Most people now live on “less than five litres a day.” The destruction of Gaza’s water systems has made things worse, leaving over two million people in a desperate situation.

Water Infrastructure Targeted

Israel’s attacks have severely damaged Gaza’s water infrastructure. This deliberate destruction has disrupted daily life for countless families. Shadi Yassin, a displaced Palestinian in central Gaza, highlighted the challenges. He said, “We need water for showers, dishes, and cleaning. We also need drinking water and we can’t easily afford that. The amount of water here is not enough.”

Schools Bombed in Airstrikes

Israeli airstrikes targeted two schools in Gaza on Thursday. These schools sheltered displaced people. The attacks killed 15 Palestinians and injured 30 others, according to Al Jazeera.

Conflict Expands to Yemen

Meanwhile, Israel also launched airstrikes in Yemen. The strikes targeted Houthi-controlled sites, including two power stations, ports, and an oil facility. At least nine people died in the attacks. These actions followed Israel’s claim that it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.

Houthi Group Responds

The Houthi group in Yemen vowed retaliation. Spokesperson Yahya Saree announced they are ready for a prolonged war with Israel. He stated this was in support of Palestinians in Gaza, Al Jazeera reported.

US Raises Humanitarian Concerns

The Biden administration urged Israel to address the humanitarian crisis. Lisa Grande, the Middle East aid envoy, contacted Israel’s military liaison to the Palestinians, General Ghassan Alian. She demanded Israel cancel civilian evacuation orders and allow displaced Palestinians to return home. Additionally, she asked for a detailed plan to protect civilian infrastructure, reports Times of Israel.

Mounting Death Toll

The conflict has caused massive casualties. Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks have killed 45,129 Palestinians and injured 107,338 others. On the same day, Hamas-led attacks in Israel killed 1,139 people and captured over 200. The violence shows no signs of slowing down, leaving millions to suffer amid the devastation.
