Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina met Congress leaders in Delhi
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met with senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Monday. Photographs posted on social media show the Bangladeshi leader along with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Notably, the meeting comes a day after Hasina attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The ties between the Nehru-Gandhi family and Hasina are deep-rooted. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh and Sheikh Hasina’s father, had strong ties with former PM Indira Gandhi. In fact, it was Indira Gandhi who played a key role in Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.
