Chhattisgarh Chief Minister-designate Vishnu Deo Sai and his council of ministers will be taking oath on December 13 in Raipur, a state government official said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP chief JP Nadda and other leaders of the party are expected to be present at the ceremony.
A tribal face, a political veteran who served as a Union Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai emerged as the dark horse of the week-long suspense over the chief ministerial post of Chhattisgarh.
Former Chhattisgarh CM and BJP leader Raman Singh announced the name of Vishnu Deo Sai as the next CM of Chhattisgarh during the BJP legislature meeting in Raipur on Sunday.
Sai’s name was announced as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on Sunday afternoon after a key meeting of the BJP’s newly-elected 54 MLAs in the state was held in Raipur.
He won the Kunkuri Assembly seat with a total of 87,604 votes.
Sai is a prominent figure in the BJP and has held various positions, including being the former state chief and former union minister.
Sai hails from the influential Sahu (Teli) community which has a sizable presence in the Durg, Raipur and Bilaspur divisions.
He served as State President of the party for Chhattisgarh from 2020 until 2022. He was the Union Minister of State for Mines, Steel in the first PM Modi cabinet. He is highly regarded among tribal voters.
The new chief minister started his political career as a village sarpanch. In 1989, he was elected as a ‘panch’ of Bagia village panchayat and next year became the sarpanch unopposed.
Meanwhile, from a village sarpanch Sai rose to the rank of the Union Minister of state for steel in the first Cabinet of PM Modi.
In 1998, he was defeated in the assembly polls from Pathalgaon seat.
Vishnu Deo won four consecutive Lok Sabha elections from the Raigarh constituency from 1999 to 2014. He was not given a ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Of the 90 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh, the BJP bagged 54 while the Congress won 35.
Mohan Yadav to take oath today as MADHYA PRADESH CM
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister designate Mohan Yadav, who has been named as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, said that the oath ceremony for the state’s new government will be held on Wednesday.
Along with Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister-designates Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda will also take their oath.
“The party won the love and faith of 8.5 crore people. We are thankful to all of them for being chosen as their leader. The way the BJP is progressing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we will take the caravan of development forward under his leadership,” Mohan Yadav said.
The CM-designate said that he will take forward the development works started by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. “I am at the service of the people.
I will take forward the development works started by former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. We will take forward the double-engine government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. We will fulfil all promises,” he added.
The leader from the Yadav OBC community said that he is happy that the party has given this huge responsibility to an ordinary worker like him.
“I am a soldier of the BJP. It has become the largest party in the world because it takes care of all of its workers. I am happy that the party has given this huge responsibility to an ordinary worker like me,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to the voters of Madhya Pradesh for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) win in the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, he said. “Besides the party, I also express gratitude to the people of the entire state who formed the BJP government with a thumping majority…”
Earlier, Yadav was elected as leader of the BJP’s legislative party, 15 days after the party routed the Congress to win Madhya Pradesh. The outgoing Higher Education Minister thanked the BJP.
The BJP, in a bid to soothe ruffled feathers ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, also named two deputy chief ministers Jagdish Devda and Rajesh Shukla.
Meanwhile, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan congratulated both the Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
