Despite India’s defeat in the World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Virat Kohli received the ‘Fielder of the Match’ award. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video encapsulating the World Cup journey, highlighting Kohli’s stellar fielding performances.
India’s fielding coach, T. Dilip, commended Kohli for his on-field brilliance and leadership. Kohli’s aggressive fielding presence, passionate celebrations for each wicket, and commitment to stopping boundaries earned him the accolade. Dilip acknowledged the camaraderie among the players, emphasising the support and backing they provided each other on the field.
In a motivational speech to uplift the players after the loss, Dilip expressed pride in the team’s efforts and commitment during practice sessions. Despite the unfavourable result, he commended every player for their dedication, energy, and intent, expressing gratitude for their contributions.
India scored 240 runs in 50 overs in the World Cup final, including important contributions from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. Australia, on the other hand, successfully pursued the goal, with Travis Head’s century and Marnus Labuschagne’s half-century leading them to a six-wicket win.
Looking ahead, the World Cup finalists are set to engage in a five-match T20I series commencing in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
