Key transportation arteries in Jammu and Kashmir, including the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, Mughal road, and Srinagar-Leh road, have been forced to close due to adverse weather conditions, officials confirmed on Monday.
Officials reported that landslides and shooting stones, exacerbated by heavy snowfall and rainfall since the previous night, have rendered these vital roadways impassable.
Rohit Baskotra, SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban, detailed that incidents of shooting stones and landslides occurred near Mehad, Kishtwadi Patthar, and Gangr Ramsoo areas, necessitating the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
Efforts are underway, with personnel and machinery engaged in clearance operations to restore connectivity. However, persistent rain is impeding the progress of clearance efforts.
Baskotra urged travelers to exercise caution and refrain from embarking on journeys along the highway until weather conditions improve, and the roads are deemed safe for travel.
The closure of the Mughal Road, Srinagar-Leh highway, and several major roads in the Kashmir Valley further compounds transportation woes, exacerbating the challenges posed by the inclement weather conditions.
