Vaccines for all in Karnataka by November, says state Health Minister Dr K. Sudhakar

Health & Medical Education Minister Dr K. Sudhakar said on Wednesday that local task forces will be formed in Karnataka and made responsible for admitting Covid-infected persons to Covid Care Centres if home isolation facility is not available in rural areas.

Speaking to the media, the minister said that booth-level task forces containing members from local areas will be formed and they will manage Covid at the local levels. They will be responsible for admitting patients to Covid centres if home isolation facilities are not available, he said.

Sudhakar also announced that an order was placed for 2 crore doses of Covishield from the Serum Institute of India, out of which 9.5 lakh doses have been supplied. Those aged above 45 years are being given the first and second doses on priority, he said.

He also said that the Centre has provided 1,11,26,340 doses of the Covid vaccines so far. The state has procured 9.50 lakh doses of Covishield and 1,44,170 doses of Covaxin, a total 1,22,20,510 doses of vaccines have been received and 1,13,61,234 doses have been administered, informed the minister.

“We are planning to provide vaccines to all by the end of November. Bharat Biotech has also assured they will provide vaccines. Sputnik V is also going to be manufactured in our state and the process will speed up in the coming days,” said Dr Sudhakar.

He also informed that Greenko has donated 200 oxygen concentrators of 10 LPM each and the Centre has provided 1,050 vials of drugs for the treatment of mucormycosis. 500 additional vials will be supplied soon and a task force has been formed to contain the disease, he added.

“It is good news that 58,395 people recovered yesterday. 16,74,487 people have recovered so far. People should not panic as the fatality is still below 1%,” he added.
