According to officials, the Badrinath Highway was blocked by rolling stones from a hill near Baba Ashram Karnprayag in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. According to Chamoli Police, stones that had fallen down a hill in Karnprayag town, Chamoli district, temporarily stopped traffic on the route. Because of the heavy rains that have been falling in the Chamoli district since Friday night, a section of the Badrinath National Highway (National Highway-7) was corroded earlier on Saturday, according to officials. A 50-meter section of the highway washed away due to constant rain, according to Chamoli Police.
“Falling debris and a rise in the water level of the Lambagad drain due to constant rainfall since Friday night caused 50 metres of the NH-7 road to be washed away,” the police said in a statement.
Earlier, the road near Nandaprayag and Pursari on the Badrinath National Highway was blocked due to the pile-up of debris from the hills.
Chamoli Police shared the visuals from the spot on social media platforms, showing a huge pile of debris on the road.
According to the police, a buildup of debris on the Badrinath National Highway was blocking the road close to Navodaya Vidyalaya Peepalkoti. Earlier, rain damage to a 70-meter section of National Highway-7 in the Chamoli district near Gauchar town caused traffic issues. Following the breach, representatives from the relevant departments hurried to open the road to traffic as soon as possible. An official had stated, “The National Highway near Gauchar, Kameda, was blocked due to a breach on the road, spanning approximately 70 meters.”
