Federation of UT Employees and Workers submitted a memorandum to the Advisor to the Administrator, urging swift action regarding the non-payment of salaries for the last two months (November-December 2023). The request specifically addressed more than 125 female child servants and helpers employed in 56 crèches under the Indian Council for Child Welfare (Bal Bhavan).
Led by General Secretary Gopal Dutt Joshi and President Raghbir Chand, the delegation, consisting of over three dozen members from 18 departments associated with the Public Works Department (PWD), emphasised the urgent need for salary disbursement to the crèche workers. Despite the organisation’s substantial funds, the workers, who play a crucial role in caring for children, were terminated under the pretext of closing the crèche system, with salaries for the past two months remaining unpaid.
In the memorandum, the Federation highlighted the disparity between substantial fund allocations for other purposes and the denial of salaries to the dedicated crèche workers. The delegation accused the administration of jeopardizing the workers’ well-being by withholding their salaries, pushing them to the brink of starvation.
The Federation emphasized the violation of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child) initiative by depriving these women of their rightful earnings. It called upon the administration to reconsider its stance and fulfill the commitment to the well-being of these workers.
Following the memorandum submission, the Federation warned of upcoming protest demonstrations and a collective boycott of work across departments if the salaries were not promptly paid, and the misuse of funds continued. The Federation asserted that any resulting issues faced by the public would be the responsibility of the administration.
