UT Chandigarh administrator honours Mahatma Gandhi on Martyrs’ Day

The Punjab Governor and Administrator of UT, Chandigarh, Banwari Lal Purohit, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his death anniversary, observed as Martyrs’ Day nationwide. The Governor, accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary K. Siva Prasad and other officers and staff members of Punjab Raj Bhavan, observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for Gandhi ji and in memory of those who fought for the country’s freedom, sacrificing their lives.

The Administrator emphasized Mahatma Gandhi’s embodiment of truth and non-violence, leading pivotal movements during the freedom struggle against British rule. Reflecting on various anecdotes from Gandhi ji’s life, the Governor urged the staff to emulate his life and principles. He encouraged them to uphold honesty, integrity, and transparency in their work, advocating for the practice of ‘Ahimsa’ or non-violence to ensure that their words and deeds do not cause harm.

Governor Purohit highlighted Gandhi ji’s staunch opposition to untouchability or discrimination. Given that the day also marks Leprosy Day, he emphasized the relevance of Gandhiji’s principles.
