UP: Yogi govt to begin prisoners’ trial via video conferencing

To ensure the speedy disposal of the court cases, the Yogi government is preparing to begin trial via video conferencing of those prisoners in jails, who have not appeared before the court for more than a year.

A proposal in this regard has been presented before the Chief Secretary by the Department of Prison Administration and Reforms. After the proposal is approved by the CM, it will be implemented. As per reports, there are many such prisoners in the jails, who are not being summoned and are awaiting to appear before the court.

Therefore, the Prison Department has recommended the proposal of running prisoners’ trials via video conferencing. As per the figures given by the department, a total of 232 such prisoners are lodged in various jails in the state.

Out of 232 such prisoners, 16 are from Ayodhya Zone, 55 are from Lucknow, 8 are from Kanpur, 10 are from Varanasi, 5 are from Prayagraj, 41 are from Meerut, 24 are from Gorakhpur, 28 are from Bareilly, and 45 are from Agra Zone.

In a statement, the department revealed that due to the transfer of these prisoners from one jail to another, the Hon’ble Court has not called them for an appearance for more than one year, leading to the hearing of their cases getting obstructed.
