UP: Govt is not operating ‘Zomato services’, BJP official tells flood-victims, sparks anger

A video of a government representative in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar area telling flood victims that the government is not operating a “Zomato service” to deliver food or relief supplies door-to-door has been widely circulated online, sparking anger from many.

The district magistrate of Ambedkar Nagar, Samuel Paul, is heard in the video asking that the locals set a time that is convenient for them so that the food may be prepared appropriately for distribution. According to him, “baadh chowki” (flood stations) are set up so that people can receive assistance and meet their basic needs.

“There are arrangements for you (people) to stay there (flood posts). We will give you chlorine tablets. If you fall sick, doctors are available who will come and see you. These are the purposes of a flood post. “The government is not running a Zomato service that we will send you food at home,” the DM can be heard saying in the video.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered government personnel in a number of areas to be on high alert due to the likelihood of flooding. At a high-level meeting earlier this week, which was presided over by the CM, orders were provided to maintain the DM control room operational 24 hours a day under the supervision of joint magistrate level officers.

Ayodhya, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ballia are a few of the other districts that have been severely impacted by flooding.

The aftermath of constant rain is causing problems for the northern state, with floodwater flooding locals’ homes in various areas, including Ambedkar Nagar.

On Thursday, Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of the Sant Kabir district’s flood-stricken areas and provided relief supplies to the afflicted people.

Due to the swelling of various rivers, including the Rapti and Saryu, the flood scenario in Uttar Pradesh has become particularly alarming. Locals, especially those in the Deoria and Sant Kabir Nagar districts, have reportedly been having trouble sleeping due to concerns about overflow.
