UN representatives met Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism and Women and Child Development Minister Diya Kumari at the Secretariat on Friday and apprised her about the possibilities of development of tourism in Rajasthan, women empowerment, prevention of anaemia, elimination of gender discrimination and promotion of girl child education, and discussed points like making self-reliant.
The Deputy Chief Minister held a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp, Chief Field Officer of UNICEF Rajasthan Isabel Bardem and Chief of Staff of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator Radhika Kaul Batra.
In the meeting, possibilities of promoting women empowerment, anaemia, malnutrition, drinking water, tourism, art, culture and heritage of the state by coordinating with the UN and various departments of the state government were discussed.
Diya Kumari mentioned that efforts would be made to make Anganwadis capable in line with the goals of the central and state governments. The focus would be on addressing pockets affected by anaemia and malnutrition. Additionally, capacity building for ten thousand Sathis (community workers) would be established in Rajasthan, strengthening their job roles as frontline workers.
The meeting also discussed strategies for promoting sustainable goals to enhance domestic and international tourism. It emphasized the need to boost Rajasthan’s magnificent intangible cultural heritage such as arts, culture, and traditional crafts. Due to modernization, there is a risk of neglecting artistic, cultural, and historical heritage. Rajasthan and Jaipur possess a rich historical heritage, and discussions were held on how to preserve and promote them from a tourism perspective.
