Uddhav removes Kolhapur district president over Swabhimani Paksha’s inclusion issue

In a decisive move, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray dismissed his longstanding loyalist, Kolhapur district president Murlidhar Jadhav, on Thursday. The termination followed Jadhav’s expression of dissatisfaction regarding the inclusion of Raju Shetti-led Swabhimani Paksha into the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Thackeray’s action serves as a stern reminder to party members that adherence to the party line within the MVA coalition is paramount, and deviations may result in disciplinary measures.

Jadhav, aspiring for the Hatkanangale Lok Sabha seat, openly criticized Shetti, who declined Thackeray’s offer to join the MVA during their meeting on Tuesday. Jadhav’s outburst and warning against allocating the seat to Swabhimani Paksha played a significant role in his expulsion from the party.

Following his removal, Jadhav addressed reporters, expressing his intent to clarify his future course of action on Friday.

Deputy leader of the Sena (UBT), Sanjay Powar, acknowledged Jadhav’s contributions and expressed disappointment at his departure. While recognizing Jadhav’s expectations from Matoshree (Thackerays), Powar emphasized that party members shouldn’t question their leader’s interactions. Despite Jadhav’s expulsion, Powar suggested that Shetti remains a strong contender for the Hatkanangale seat.

Political observer Gurubal Mali noted that Jadhav’s removal might have limited impact, given Shetti’s prominence as a potential Hatkanangale candidate. The outcome may hinge on Jadhav’s alignment with the ruling alliance and the level of support he garners.
