Typhoon Haikui poured down torrential rain on Taiwan before weakening into a strong tropical storm as it approached southern China. The typhoon appeared to be leaving the island, but it made a second landfall in southwest Kaohsiung before going into the Taiwan Strait.
Although no deaths have been reported, police say more than 100 people were injured during the storm. Devastation was visible along the shoreline of Taitung in eastern Taiwan.
