Two Arrested for Shooting Incident in Jammu, Heroin Seized

Police have arrested two criminals involved in a shooting incident that left a man injured in Jammu, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Imran Khaleel, a resident of Gujjar locality, was shot at by unidentified assailants in the Nikki Tawi area during the night of November 2-3. The victim was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital after sustaining injuries. Superintendent of Police (Jammu Rural) Brijesh Kumar Sharma confirmed that the case has been solved with the arrest of the two suspects.

“The shooting incident has been resolved with the arrest of both accused. One of them is a history-sheeter with nine criminal cases, including drug peddling, registered against him,” Sharma, who also holds the additional charge of SP City North, told reporters.

Following the shooting, a case was registered, and multiple teams were formed to identify and apprehend the culprits. Scrutiny of CCTV footage and other evidence led to the arrest of Mohd Hussain Khatana and Mohd Ramzan near the fourth Tawi bridge while they were traveling in a private Sports Utility Vehicle.

At the time of their arrest, the police recovered 18 grams of heroin from their possession. During interrogation, the accused confessed to firing at Khaleel, believing him to be an informer for a rival drug smuggling gang with whom they had a confrontation the previous day.

A pistol and 16 rounds of ammunition were also recovered from the suspects’ residence in Rangoora locality. Ramzan, who has a criminal history, is involved in nine cases, including six related to bovine smuggling and the rest to narcotics trafficking.

Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the suspects’ network and potential associates. The authorities are also considering booking Ramzan under the Public Safety Act due to his criminal record.

SP Sharma urged the public to assist law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime, especially in creating a “drugs-free” Jammu and Kashmir.
