In a distressing event at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Narinder Kaur, a 50-year-old senior staff nurse, allegedly died by suicide inside a washroom attached to her office on Monday.
Kaur, a resident of Sector 35, held the position of in-charge of the X-ray department at the Advanced Pediatric Centre (APC) in PGIMER. Colleague Divya discovered the incident when attempting to enter the washroom, which was bolted from inside. After unsuccessful attempts to communicate with Kaur, Divya alerted security guards and staff. The door was forcibly opened, revealing Kaur’s lifeless body.
According to sources, there were reports of harassment, prompting suggestions for the victim’s family to file a formal complaint. Kaur arrived at her office at 8:30 am, and her body was discovered around 10:30 am. Despite efforts to save her, Kaur was declared dead by doctors at the PGIMER emergency ward. Police sources indicate that, so far, no suicide note has been found in the victim’s possession. A forensic experts team collected clues from the scene, and an inquest proceeding has been initiated at Sector 11 police station.
