Opposition from traders regarding the establishment of Hatwara (weekly market) in Sanjay Bazaar has escalated, with the Jaipur Trade Federation now throwing its support behind the protesting traders.
The traders have issued a warning of taking to the streets if Hatwara is imposed on Sunday. Tensions flared up following a rally organized by local MLA Rafiq Khan to protest against the actions of the Heritage Municipal Corporation in Sanjay Bazaar Hatwara.
The Jaipur Trade Federation has united with the traders of Sanjay Bazaar in their call for the closure of Hatwara. The traders had previously met with UDH Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra to address the issue. A memorandum will be submitted to the Municipal Corporation and the police administration by the traders. Following a meeting with BJP leader Ravi Nayyar, the traders had already submitted a memorandum, urging the relocation of Hatwara to a different location.
Vishnudatt Sharma, the General Secretary of Sanjay Bazar Vyapar Mandal, highlighted that despite the 2017 High Court orders directing the relocation of Hatwara within three months, no action has been taken yet. This situation hampers the traders from opening shops, leading to encroachments in the market.
Sharma emphasized that the municipal corporation’s actions are mere theatrics, and due to the opposition from local MLA Rafiq Khan, the administration’s efforts have been rendered ineffective. A strong message has been conveyed, stating that if Hatwara is conducted this Sunday, the trade union will call for a city-wide market shutdown in Jaipur.
