Women pavement vendors and fisherwomen would be among the approximately one crore beneficiaries under the Rs 1,000 monthly ‘right’ payout to women heads of families, Chief Minister M K Stalin apprised the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday.
Stalin said guidelines and criteria for the scheme would be released soon and the initiative was carefully named “Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam” (Women’s Right to Income Scheme), which is the government’s recognition of women’s hard work.
The government has already announced that the scheme would be implemented from September 15, 2023. In the Budget, the government set apart Rs 7,000 crore for the scheme.
He said the scheme would feature in history as a giant stride in social justice projects of Tamil Nadu and it shall benefit about one crore women heads of families.
