In a crackdown against drug traffickers, the rural police in Ludhiana have apprehended three individuals involved in drug smuggling. The police seized a whopping 5400 kilograms of heroin from their possession. The accused were transporting the contraband in a tightly sealed body truck from other states. In addition to the drugs, the police also confiscated drug money amounting to Rs 1.25 crores, 2 country-made pistols, 6 live cartridges, 14 fake number plates, 4 police uniforms, 1 belt, and other items.
The police have filed a case against the accused under various sections, including drug trafficking and the Arms Act. The identities of the accused have been revealed as Harjinder Singh alias Rindi, Avatar Singh alias Tari, and Kamalpreet Singh. The police have presented the accused in court, and further investigations are underway while they remain in police custody.
SSP Rural Navneet Singh Bains informed that based on the directions of SSP Manvinder Bir Singh, a team led by CI Kikar Singh received information that the accused drug traffickers were bringing a large quantity of heroin in a sealed body truck from other states. The traffickers were planning to supply the drugs in the Jagara and surrounding areas near Bharoval and Gaurasya Makhan Link Road today. Acting on this information, the police set up a barricade and intercepted the truck for inspection. During the search, 270 plastic containers were found in the truck.
Each plastic container held 20 kilograms of heroin, resulting in the seizure of 5400 kilograms of heroin in total. During interrogation, one of the accused, Harjinder Singh, revealed that he had previously brought heroin through Scorpio, WagonR, and Canter, supplying it to Jagraon, Sindhwavet, Moga, and Barnala. The confiscated drug money was earned by selling the seized drugs. Harjinder Singh alias Rindi has faced charges of drug trafficking in four cases prior to this incident. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the seized police uniforms to determine if they were involved in impersonating law enforcement officers.
