‘The Joy of Bengal’ exhibition showcases works of contemporary artists

Art Magnum, Debovasha Art Gallery, and 108 Projects present a group exhibition ‘The Joy of Bengal’ featuring eminent contemporary artists from Bengal and showcasing the cultural richness of the region.

Bengal has been the epicentre of arts in India since the germination of the Bengal School in the early 20th century. Its relevance as the cultural capital of India has increased manifold considering the challenges posed by both the domestic scenario as well as the international situation.

Sanat Kar, Etching

The exhibition shall in many ways depict the response of the artist of Bengal over the years to these difficult challenges. A total of 40-50 artworks of different mediums shall be on display tracing the journey of some of the most significant contemporary artists from Bengal.

Artists participating in the exhibition are Jogen Chowdhury, Somanth Hore, Reba Hore, Chandana Hore, Ganesh Haloi, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Sanjay Bhattacharya, Rabin Mandal, Sunil Das, Krishnendu Chakki, Sanat Kar, Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya, Shampa Sircar Das, Sanjay Das, Krishnendu Porel, Suhas Roy, Arup Das, Alay Ghoshal, Niren Sen Gupta, Atin Basak, Ramananda Bandyopadhyay, Shekhar Roy & Haren Das. Tarun Khanna, Founder, 108 Projects, said, “We conceived this entire show in a very short period of time and were very glad that it came out well. We also wanted to bring focus to the beauty of an extremely important art form of Printmaking with Etching, Lithography, and woodcuts which various master artists like Somnath Hore, Haren Das, Sanat Kar and others have perfected over their years of practice.”

“Indian collectors are mostly skewed towards canvas as a medium but these are also important and much more laborious works of art with great depth and presence. Only recently the Indian art world has realised the importance of printmaking with the rise in global demand for works of Zarina Hashmi,” added Khanna.
