In a significant operation, police along with security forces apprehended a terrorist associate associated with the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Baramulla. The operation also led to the recovery of incriminating materials and ammunition from his possession.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding terrorist movement in the Pattan area, a joint checkpoint was established at Chinar Crossing Pattan by Baramulla Police, 2nd Battalion SSB, and Army 29 RR. During the inspection, suspicious movement of an individual approaching the checkpoint on foot was observed. Upon sighting the police and security forces, the individual attempted to flee but was tactfully apprehended by the alert checkpoint team. The apprehended individual was identified as Mehraj ud din Bhat, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Mundyari Pattan.
During the subsequent search, security forces recovered 1 live hand grenade from his possession. A case under sections UA (P) & Arms Act has been registered in PS Pattan, and investigations are underway.
This operation underscores the continued vigilance and swift action of the security forces in countering terrorism and maintaining peace and security in the region.
