Telangana’s Covid-19 infection rate worsens, stands at 10%

As Telangana continues reporting a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, new data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) shows that the state’s Covid-19 infection rate stood at 10% or even higher.

According to a rapid survey done by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) in association with the Telangana government, the infection rate this time would be much higher than the last survey.

According to primary calculations, the infection rate would be around 10% or even higher. The survey was taken up in five randomly selected containment areas in Hyderabad to monitor the transmission of Covid-19 among the citizens. The study will help in disclosing the socio-demographic risk factors.

The sample collection was launched on 26 August, and in the primary survey, the infection rate in Jangaon was 0.49%, in Kamareddy and it was 0.25% in Nalgona. The samples were collected from people in the districts of Jangaon, Kamareddy and Nalgonda.

Andhra Pradesh’s coronavirus tally shot past the 4 lakh mark on Friday and Telangana continued to witness a spike in Covid-19 cases, taking the infection count in the state to 1,17,415.

The state health department and district authorities of the Telangana government are actively engaged in the survey process to ensure the smooth operation of the house-to-house survey in 30 villages across three districts. The total subjects covered in this survey will be about 1,200.
