The election for the Shrikaranpur Assembly in Sriganganagar district has set several records. On one hand, when Minister Surendrapal Singh Titi, who became a minister before the elections, lost in the election, another unique record was made. The election results have seen 78-year-old Teetar Singh losing his 32nd election in his life this time. However, this time, he has secured 1223 votes.
Teetar Singh, who has lost every election so far, has contested elections from Member of Parliament to Panchayat Samiti member. He wishes to win an election at least once. Furthermore, his second wish is to have his name recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records for filing so many nominations. However, both wishes have not been fulfilled yet.
It is worth noting that Teetar Singh contested the Assembly elections in 2018, during which he received 653 votes. Before this, in 2013, he received 427 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Teetar Singh received 2726 votes from the Gangapur seat, and in 2014, he received 3924 votes. Teetar Singh says that he will continue to contest elections in the future.
Teetar Singh, a resident of Village 25F Gulabewala in the Shrikaranpur Assembly constituency, is associated with labour activism related to the Mazhabi Sikh community. He first contested elections in the Assembly elections in 1985. Since then, he has filed nomination papers for every Assembly and Lok Sabha election, as well as for the posts of Sarpanch and Panchayat Samiti members.
Teetar Singh has mentioned several times that he works as a labourer for a livelihood. In this regard, to file nomination papers, he has sold his goats and household items several times. He had around two dozen goats, of which only three are left now. This time, he collected money through loans and donations and filed his nomination.
