Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that public participation through initiatives such as ‘Ni-kshay Mitra’ has played a critical role in the fight against tuberculosis over the last nine years.
The Prime Minister made the remarks following the launch of the TB-Mukt Panchayat initiative, the official pan-India rollout of a shorter preventive treatment and family-centric care model for tuberculosis, and the publication of India’s Annual TB Report 2023.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the ‘One World Tuberculosis Summit’ in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister emphasized that the world should be aware of India’s new vision and approach.
“In the last nine years, India has collaborated on many fronts in the fight against tuberculosis.” Such as through public participation, improved nutrition, treatment through innovation, full use of technology, and wellness and prevention, as well as missions such as Fit India, Khelo India, and Yoga,” he said.
“Under ‘Ni-kshay Mitra,’ we urged people to adopt a TB patient.” Following this mission, close to ten lakh TB patients were adopted by ordinary Indians.
“You will be surprised to know that even 10-12-year old children in India are contributing to the fight by becoming ‘Ni-kshay Mitra’. The economic assistance provided by these Ni-kshay Mitra’ has surpassed 1 lakh crore. “It is very inspiring to see such a large community initiative running in India,” Prime Minister Modi said.
