In the second sarpanch murder within a month, Avan Kumar Sonu Cheema, the current sarpanch of Tarn Taran›s constituency, was shot by two unidentified motorcyclists in Adda Jhabal this morning. Cheema sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar for treatment, where unfortunately, news of his demise was received during medical care.
Providing details, DSP Tarsem Masih mentioned that Avan Kumar Sonu Cheema passed away during treatment. Additionally, there have been reports of gunfire aimed at the current sarpanch of Adda Jhabal, captured by a CCTV camera, which is now in possession for further investigation.
According to information received, around 9 AM today, while Cheema was getting his hair cut at a barbershop on Bheeki Wind Road, two unidentified motorcyclists approached. One started the motorcycle outside, while the other entered, shot Cheema, causing severe injuries. He was immediately rushed to an Amritsar hospital for prompt medical attention.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, Thana Chief Inspector Harinder Singh, accompanied by a heavy police force, arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The entire incident has been captured on CCTV, aiding the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, during the inquiry, it was revealed that Sonu Cheema had an ongoing dispute with Amritpal, residing abroad, who had issued threats on social media, leading to numerous filed complaints against him.
