Suvendu accuses Mamata of creating rift between BSF and Bengal police

Day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke about the BSF jurisdiction during a meeting in Malda, Nandigram BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday accused her of deliberately trying to divide BSF and WB Police.

The state’s opposition leader also alleged that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Union Home Minister and the Defense Minister had taken to Twitter to take action.

Recently, under the direction of the Union Home Ministry, the capacity of the Border Security Force has been increased from 15 km to 50 km. The Trinamool has strongly opposed the move. Mamata had even discussed the matter with the Prime Minister a few days ago.

Tweeting the Malda meet video clip, Adhikari wrote on Twitter that Mamata Banerjee was committing the same crime again and again and deliberately trying to create a gap between the BSF and the police. He then referred to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defence for consideration.

In the video clip, Mamata while addressing a police officer, was heard saying, “You have a problem there. The BSF went from village to village. And when it comes to ordinary people… many times there are complaints of oppression. They are even seen in the voting line during voting. Have you ever talked to the BSF DG?”

The Chief Minister added, “In Murshidabad, Malda, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, a lot of BSFs enter without informing the police. They enter without informing the local police. Our ICs do not think or leave.” Posting this video, Adhikari accused the chief minister of creating a conflict between the BSF and the state police.

On Wednesday, the BJP leader had said the chief minister was trying to create a conflict between the police and the BSF and by doing so, she was encouraging militancy, trafficking in women and cattle. The president, the prime minister and the governor should take action, he added.
