Sushant Singh case: HC quashes FIR against actor’s sister Meetu Singh

The Bombay High Court on Monday quashed an FIR registered by the Mumbai Police against Meetu Singh, sister of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. However other sister of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Priyanka Singh, will have to face prosecution.

This FIR was filed by Mumbai Police after Rhea Chakraborty, the actor’s girlfriend, had lodged a complaint at Bandra Police on 7 September 2020. Rhea had alleged that the sisters conspired with Dr Tarun Kumar to obtain a false prescription with medicines containing psychotropic substances controlled under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.  A division bench of justices S.S. Shinde and M.S. Karnik, quashed criminal proceedings against Meetu Singh, after finding that there was no material evidence against her. For Priyanka Singh, the court held: “There is prima facie case found against Priyanka Singh and there should not be any impediment against investigation against her.” Advocate Madhav Throat, who represented the sisters, said, “We will now approach the Supreme Court, challenging the HC judgment.” Reacting to the verdict, Advocate Satish Maneshinde, who represents Rhea Chakraborty, said, “We are satisfied with the verdict. It appears that ultimately Rhea Chakraborty’s cry for justice and truth has prevailed. Satya Meva Jayate!”
