‘Surprised’ over PM Modi’s religious slogans during poll campaigning: Pawar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s religious slogans during the election campaign in Karnataka have surprised NCP president Sharad Pawar. Assembly polls in the state will take place on 10 May.

Mr Pawar went on to say that it creates a different kind of atmosphere when one raises a religion like issue in an election campaign.

However, Pawar predicted that the Congress is likely to unseat the BJP in the upcoming assembly polls in Karnataka; he was speaking to media persons in Pandharpur temple town earlier on Sunday.

“We take an oath for democratic values and secularism at the time of contesting an election,” Pawar said to a Marathi TV channel.

He further added that we follow the concept of secularism, and taking up the religious issue is not a good.
