In Punjab, like Delhi, there should be intervention by the Supreme Court: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal has stated that the Supreme Court’s decision directing the Delhi government, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), to pay ₹450 crores for advertisements related to the Delhi-Meerut RRTS project, should serve as a precedent for Punjab. He emphasized the need for a similar intervention in Punjab to prevent Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from squandering state resources by spending 1,000 crores on advertisements, instead of managing stubble burning and implementing social welfare programs. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sukhbir stated that it is time to hold the AAP government accountable. He demanded an audit of all stalled foundational projects because the state government is not allocating funds for them. The common man is distressed by the cuts in funding for urban local bodies and rural development, and immediate corrective action through judicial intervention is necessary.
Badal said that the Supreme Court’s order is an eye-opener as it exposes the way the AAP government is spending public money on its propaganda while refusing funds for essential foundational projects. He urged for a similar intervention in Punjab because the AAP government is not releasing funds for projects but is rather spending money on propaganda-based advertisements, mirroring the situation in Delhi.
