Supreme Court to hear case challenging law on triple talaq

The Supreme Court will hear the case challenging the law on triple talaq in November. The Supreme Court said it will hear petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. The Supreme Court in its judgment on 22 August 2017 had declared triple talaq was an unconstitutional act. After the verdict of the Supreme Court, the central government made triple talaq a crime by enacting a law. In which there is also a provision of imprisonment for three years. Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging this law. The petitioners have challenged the constitutional validity of the law saying it is un-Islamic and volatile of Articles 13, 14, 15, 21 and 25 of the Constitution.
