Supreme Court: bail Granted To TMC Spokesperson Saket Gokhale In Case For Alleged Misappropriation Of Funds

The Supreme Court in the case observed and has granted bail to the TMC spokesperson Saket Gokhale in the case of alleged misappropriation of funds.
The bench comprising of Justice BR Gavai and Vikram Nath in the case observed and has granted bail after noting that he has been under custody for nearly 108 days. Therefore, Gokhale approached the Supreme Court wherein challenging the order of the Gujarat High Court which denied him the bail in a case which relates to alleged misappropriation of funds collected through crowdfunding.
Therefore, the allegations raised against him are that an amount of over Rs 72 lakh has been collected by him from more than 1,700 persons through a crowdfunding platform ‘our democracy’ and that money is being used for personal use and thus, the funds are misappropriated.
It has also been observed by the High Court bench of Justice Samir J. Dave and has stated that there being a prima facie case that the amount which is collected in the name of welfare were being used by the accused for his personal benefit.
In the present case, Gokhale was first arrested by the Gujarat police in a case for allegedly spreading fake news with regards to the cost incurred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Morbi town following a bridge collapse tragedy. Further, the Gokhale was arrested by the Gujarat police in the case for alleged misappropriation of funds on 30.12.2022.
Gokhale was arrested in this year in the month of January by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case over alleged misappropriation of funds.
Accordingly, the court denied the bail application moved by Gokhale.
