Supreme Court agrees to hear petition of riots on Ram Navami

The Supreme Court is ready to hear the case of riots during Ram Navami processions in many states across the country.

The Supreme Court will hear the matter on 17 April. On behalf of the Hindu Front for Justice, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court demanding an inquiry into the riots during the procession. Riots took place in West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Gujarat on 30 March in the procession taken out on the day of Ram Navami.

There has been a demand for compensation for the damage caused to the devotees and their property who were injured in these riots. Demand to summon reports from Chief Secretaries of violence-affected states has also been made in the petition.

It has been demanded in the petition that damages should be recovered only from those who are accused of spreading violence and causing damage to property. It has also been demanded in the petition that the State Governments should be instructed not to prevent any area from allowing Hindu processions and processions just by declaring it as a Muslim dominated area.
