He won a gold medal, throwing 73.29 meters in Hangzhou, China. Before this, he had set a world record with a throw of 70.83 meters in Paris. Now, breaking his own record, he has added a gold medal to India’s tally.

Sumit Antil, a Paralympic champion, was competing in the Asian Para Games taking place in China, where he secured the gold medal in the javelin throw event with a throw of 73.29 meters. He had previously improved his own world record of 70.83 meters during the World Para Athletics Championships held in Paris earlier this year.
Sumit Antil was born on June 7, 1998. He is the only brother among three sisters and has taken responsibility for his family from a very young age. At the age of seven, Sumit lost his father, who was posted in the Air Force, due to an illness. After his father’s passing, his mother, Nirmala Devi, took on the responsibility of raising all four children. Nirmala Devi has shared that Sumit was giving tuition while in the 12th grade.
On the evening of January 5, 2015, Sumit was returning from tuition on his bike when he was hit by a cement-loaded tractor-trolley. He lost one of his legs in the accident. After spending several months in the hospital, Sumit was taken to Pune in 2016, where he was fitted with an artificial leg.
Sumit’s mother, Nirmala Devi, expressed her immense pride in her son, saying that she is very happy that her son has brought the gold medal and a world record for the country. She added that Sumit has always worked very hard.
Sumit’s wife, Sheetal, mentioned that she is feeling very good, emphasizing how her husband has continuously returned home as a winner. She stated that although she is always proud of her husband, she is especially proud of his achievement this time.
Sumit’s sister, Kiran, expressed her immense pride in her brother and said that she is proud of her brother. She mentioned that Sumit always fulfils his promises. He had promised to set a world record, and he has done it again, bringing a gold medal to India.
Sumit’s family and villagers have planned a grand party to welcome him home, celebrating his arrival in style.
