The Punjab State Human Rights Commission has called upon the UT Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to provide a comprehensive report concerning the disappearance of two teenage daughters, aged 19 and 16, belonging to a hearing and speech-impaired couple in Sector 21. The young girls went missing on October 18, leading to the registration of a kidnapping case by the Sector 19 police against unknown individuals.
Following the publication of news reports detailing the situation, the Human Rights Commission has taken notice of the case.
In its official order, the commission has instructed the matter to be presented before the SSP, UT, who is to thoroughly examine the complaint and furnish a report by the upcoming hearing scheduled for January 16, 2024. Copies of the order, along with the original complaint, will be dispatched to the SSP through email and postal channels for compliance. The Home Secretary, UT, will also receive a copy for informational purposes. Jagjit Singh, the girls’ uncle, has stated that neither of them has any form of impairment. According to the parents’ CCTV footage, the girls were last observed walking towards Sector 20. However, when the police reviewed the CCTV footage from Sectors 20 and 34 chowk, they discovered that the cameras were not functioning.
