SpiceJet offers corona insurance cover to flyers; starting price Rs 443

In a first-of-its-kind initiative by an airline in India, SpiceJet has started a scheme of insurance cover for Covid-19 hospitalisation for its passengers. Any passenger travelling with SpiceJet can opt for the insurance cover ranging between Rs 50,000 and Rs 300,000 at a premium for Rs 443 to Rs 1,564 a year.

The insurance covers hospital expenses and all preand post-hospitalisation expenses for 30 and 60 days, respectively. It also covers tests, medication and consultations upon testing Covid positive. The airline has joined hands with Go Digit General Insurance Limited through its Digit Illness Group Insurance Policy to offer this insurance cover, which will further boost the confidence and morale of passengers.

SpiceJet chairman and managing director Ajay Singh said: “The health, well-being and safety of our passengers is our topmost priority and this medical insurance cover that we have facilitated is certainly relevant for the current times. It will further boost the morale of our passengers to travel freely and frequently. The insurance cover is not only affordable but is also valid for one year. Air travel was and remains the safest mode of public transport and we have not seen a single case of Coronavirus transmission on a SpiceJet flight.”

This insurance has no limit on ICU charges or room rent until the insured sum lasts and will cover all types of hospitals. The policy ensures a zero-touch process to avail the claim.
