The Department of Social Welfare has organized three days Special Olympic Games for Divyangjan in collaboration with Rotary Chandigarh, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and Special Bharat Olympics from 11th to 13th December 2023 at Gymnasium Hall , Punjab University Chandigarh. A total of 177 athletes from various states of the North zone participated in a multitude of games, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and inclusivity.
Under the leadership of Chief Electoral Officer, U.T. Chandigarh, the Department has also put up stalls for the awareness of the Welfare Schemes and Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program (SVEEP) on the theme ‘No Voter To Be Left Behind’ with a vision to reach out to the differentially abled persons for registration as voters. Differently abled persons constitute a special section of the society that requires an affirmative and dedicated involvement of the electoral machinery for their inclusive participation. The Department of Election has enroll the young PwDs as voter and aware them to voting process, facilities provided to PwDs during election and how they can use VVPAT machines being a first time voter in coming Lok Sabha Election-2024.
