On December 18, the water supply to several areas in South Mumbai will be disrupted as an expert committee appointed by the BMC, consisting of IIT-Bombay professors, local experts, and municipal officials, conducts an internal inspection of compartment I of Malabar Hill Reservoir. This examination will determine whether the tank requires repair or demolition.
To facilitate the inspection, the compartment will be emptied, leading to a 10% water cut in certain areas, including wards A, C, D, G-North, and G-South. The affected regions encompass Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Nariman Point, Churchgate, Fort, Bhuleshwar, Pydhonie, Marine Lines, Dhobi Talao, Tardeo, Girgaum, Walkeshwar, Malabar Hill, Altamont Road, Dadar, Mahim, Shivaji Park, Worli, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, and Mahalaxmi. Some locations will also experience low-pressure water supply during this period.
The internal inspection is scheduled between 8 am and 10 am, and the BMC has urged residents to use water judiciously during this time. A similar disruption occurred last week when compartment II of the reservoir underwent inspection on December 7. Mumbaikars and experts can contribute suggestions for the reconstruction of Malabar Hill Reservoir by emailing mhriit.suggestion@gmail.com until Friday, according to civic officials.
