Six people killed in oil tanker explosion in Mizoram’s Aizawl

Six people have died as a result of the oil tanker explosion in Mizoram’s Aizawl district after two injured people died on Wednesday.

A tanker carrying gasoline caught fire in the Tuirial neighbourhood on Saturday, October 29.

Aizawl district Superintendent of Police (SP) C. Lalruaia said that two men aged 41 and 37 died at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) and Greenwood, a private hospital in Aizawl on Wednesday.

The victims came from Tuirial, bringing the village’s total number of casualties to six.

Lalruaia said that a police report had been filed and that an investigation was ongoing. According to the SP, the driver of the car who left the scene of the collision has not yet been apprehended.

The event happened as a fuel truck carrying 22,000 litres of gasoline approached Champhai town in the state’s northeastern region, which borders Myanmar.

Around 3 o’clock, an accident involving an oil tanker occurred on National Highway 6. Around 6 o’clock in the evening, as residents of Tuirial hamlet and motorists passing by attempted to collect gasoline seeping from the car, it caught fire and exploded.

Lalruaia said that at the time of the tragedy, four individuals were passed away on the scene and at least 17 people were injured.

He asserted that as soon as they learned about the collision, the police team was on the scene right away.

The oil tanker may have been nearby when the explosion occurred, according to police suspicion. According to others who were there, the driver was intoxicated when the over speeding car collided with the object.
