Siddaramaiah hints to contest from Varuna constituency

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah has announced his intention to run for the upcoming Assembly polls in his home constituency of Varuna in Mysuru district. On Friday, Siddaramaiah hinted at running from two constituencies, including Varuna, where his son Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah is the current representative.
Siddaramaiah had contested from both Chamundeshwari and Badami constituencies in the 2018 Assembly polls. Although he had lost in Chamundeshwari, he went on to win from Badami and served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for a brief period.
Siddaramaiah’s announcement has generated a buzz among Congress supporters and political observers, as he is considered to be a key player in Karnataka politics. As the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Siddaramaiah has been critical of the ruling BJP government’s policies and has actively campaigned against them.
The Congress party is expected to field strong candidates in the upcoming polls, as it seeks to regain power in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah’s decision to contest from Varuna could also pave the way for his son Yathindra Siddaramaiah to contest from another constituency.
The Assembly polls in Karnataka are scheduled to be held in 2023, and the Congress party is expected to announce its list of candidates soon. With Siddaramaiah’s announcement, the political scenario in the state is likely to heat up in the coming months.
