Shinde initiates committee to explore advanced waste disposal solutions

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has taken a significant step towards addressing the waste disposal issues in Mumbai by instructing officials to establish a committee dedicated to exploring advanced methods for the scientific disposal of garbage accumulated at the dumping grounds. These dumping sites, located in Mulund, Kanjurmarg, and Deonar, currently hold thousands of tonnes of waste.
During a video-conference meeting with Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, Chief Minister Shinde emphasized the need for disposing of the waste in a scientific manner, leveraging the latest technologies available. The directive includes submitting an action plan within a week, underscoring the urgency and commitment to finding sustainable solutions. In addition to waste disposal, the Chief Minister discussed the potential utilization of Mumbai’s waste lands, indicating a comprehensive approach to address environmental concerns and optimize land use. The meeting, attended by key officials such as the State chief secretary, BMC Municipal Commissioner, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), and other senior authorities, highlighted the collaborative effort required to implement effective waste management strategies.
This initiative aligns with broader environmental goals, emphasizing the importance of adopting innovative and environmentally friendly practices to manage the increasing waste generated in urban areas. The establishment of a dedicated committee underscores the government’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions for waste management, promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for the residents of Mumbai.
