Abhishek Manu Singhvi, counsel for NCP president Sharad Pawar, cited the 2004 P.A. Sangma case during Monday’s proceedings. In that case, Sangma had sought the party name and symbol after a dispute with Sharad Pawar, but his claim was rejected by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
NCP politician Jeetendra Awhad, present with Sharad Pawar before the ECI, highlighted the Sangma case, emphasizing that Sharad Pawar held more strength in both the legislative and organizational aspects, leading to the rejection of Sangma’s plea.
Awhad drew parallels between the Sangma case and the current situation, asserting that Sharad Pawar’s greater number of legislators and organizational strength should result in the dismissal of Ajit Pawar’s plea.
On June 30, Ajit Pawar filed a petition with the ECI, seeking the party symbol and name, citing a higher number of legislators than Sharad Pawar. During the ECI hearing, concerns were raised about the sudden dispute initiated by Ajit Pawar’s camp, seeking to be recognized as the real NCP and obtain the party symbol.
