The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken a significant decision to withdraw the planned protest march from Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib to Rashtrapati Bhavan scheduled for December 20. The announcement was made by the committee’s president, Harjinder Singh Dhami.
The march was intended to demand the release of imprisoned Singh Sabha members and the commutation of the death sentence of Balwant Singh Rajoana, convicted in the assassination of former Chief Minister Beant Singh. Dhami stated that the decision was made by the SGPC Executive Committee. The resolution was issued, keeping in view a letter from Harmeet Singh Kalka, the president of the Delhi committee overseeing Shri Akal Takht Sahib.
In addition to this, Dhami welcomed the decisions taken by the Akal Takht Sahib regarding matrimonial relations in the Sikh community. He appealed to all Sikh Gurdwara management committees not to prepare any sweet dishes in the langar of any Gurdwara Sahib until January 1 and not to honor anyone with a Siropa. Only the five beloved ones leading the Nagar Kirtan procession should be honored with a Siropa.
