Haryana is in the grip of a cold wave due to northwest winds blowing from the mountains. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in view of the dense fog in 10 districts of the state. Visibility has dropped to 10 meters in these districts. Mainly dry weather is likely to prevail over Haryana during the next 4-5 days. There will be no major change in the minimum temperature during this period, but the chill will increase during the day.

Due to fog, visibility was recorded at 10 meters in Ambala, 15 in Chandigarh, 50 in Sirsa, and 60 meters in Karnal. The fog has not cleared even by 8:30 in the morning. People are facing problems in their daily activities. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Haryana will remain unfavorable until the New Year. There is no relief from fog yet.

Fog has become a significant problem in Haryana recently. Keeping in view the problems of the people and the safety of vehicles on the road, the Chandigarh Meteorological Department issued an alert thrice in 10 hours regarding dense fog. The first alert was issued at 9:03 pm. After this, the second alert was issued at 12:01 am. The third and final alert was issued early in the morning.

Due to fog in Haryana, the number of road accidents increases rapidly. According to estimates, up to 35% of road accidents occur in the state. In cold weather, the chances of various diseases like flu increase in Haryana; common cold and nosebleeds start. The problem worsens with prolonged exposure to the cold. If shivering increases in the body, then it is the first sign that the body heat is decreasing; one should immediately stop at home and rest.

Along with this, due to prolonged exposure to cold, the skin becomes pale, hard, and numb; black blisters start appearing on exposed parts of the body. In such a situation, a medical examination should be sought immediately.

The Meteorological Department has issued guidelines regarding the cold wave, in which it is advised that during this time, people should regularly moisturize their skin with oil and cream. Eat vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables and drink their juice. Avoid leaving home unnecessarily. Keep your body dry, and change clothes immediately if they get wet. Stop any factor causing loss of body heat immediately. Wear waterproof shoes. Slowly warm the part of the body that has felt cold. Maintain ventilation when using heaters to avoid catching a cold.
