Selfie point near LoC in Uri becomes tourist hotspot, symbolizes nationalism

A newly established selfie point near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir has quickly become a major attraction for tourists, offering breathtaking views of Uri’s remote border region and the panoramic beauty of the Jhelum river, officials confirmed.
Named the “INDIA selfie point,” the spot not only provides visitors with an opportunity to capture the mesmerizing landscape but also serves as a symbol of national pride in the region, officials noted.
The initiative to open this selfie point for public access comes after the army’s decision last year to open ‘Kaman Setu’, a zero-point at the LoC in Uri, for tourists. The newly inaugurated selfie point, positioned strategically along National Highway-44, has been a hit since its opening around Republic Day this year.
The concept of the selfie point was brought to life by artist and RNAF founder, Rouble Nagi. Positioned strategically, the structure offers a panoramic view of the picturesque Jhelum river, contributing to the local pride and enhancing the tourist experience, officials emphasized.
Expressing gratitude to Nagi’s foundation, known for its women empowerment projects, the army hailed her gesture of gifting the structure as a testament to the rising nationalism in the valley. The selfie point was envisioned to provide a unique and engaging environment for individuals and groups alike, the army added.
Nagi, daughter of a retired army officer, expressed her sentiments, stating that sculpting the name of the nation through her art installation is a tribute to the sacrifices made by various sections of society for the country’s freedom.
“Nothing feels better than sculpting the name of my nation through my art. Proud to install my sculpture #INDIA at Uri, a remote border region,” Nagi said, highlighting the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made for the nation’s freedom.
She urged people to include Uri as a destination in their travel plans, emphasizing the significance of educating children about the sacrifices made for the freedom enjoyed today. Nagi’s contribution extends beyond this project, as she has been instrumental in establishing selfie points in Kashmir, including ones at the revamped Polo View market, Rajbagh, and Dal Lake.
