As Independence Day approaches, a call to intensify security measures has emanated from the highest echelons of the Jammu police department. Additional Director General of Police (Jammu Zone), Mukesh Singh, emphasised the imperative need for heightened alertness, particularly around the main event venue at Maulana Azad Stadium. The directive, which comes amid a climate of concern about potential terror threats, mandates strengthening of the border security grid, enhanced checkpoints, especially in sensitive zones like Rajouri-Poonch and Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban ranges, and ensuring the ongoing Amarnath Yatra proceeds without disruptions.
In a comprehensive review meeting, attended by representatives from the Army, Border Security Force, Central Armed Police Force, and various intelligence agencies, the focus was not only on conventional threats but also on emerging challenges. Singh underscored the importance of anti-drone measures and safeguarding police and Army facilities. Earlier discussions were also enriched by inputs from Senior Superintendents of Police, Chandan Kohli and Shamsheer Hussain, detailing the security blueprint for the main event.
Preparations are in full swing, with Maulana Azad Stadium already witnessing a significant boost in security personnel, supported by sniffer dogs and metal detectors to ensure meticulous scrutiny.
