Sector 63 residents protest against installation of lift access devices by RWA

In Sector 63, the Resident Welfare Association is installing access devices in the lifts without obtaining permission from the residents. This has led to growing discontent among the people, resulting in a strong demonstration by residents in the Nazar sector. The residents organized a rally throughout the sector, expressing their dissatisfaction with the RWA and raising slogans against the association.
Sunil Barwa, leading the protest, mentioned that the RWA is installing access devices in lifts located outside people’s houses without obtaining permission. He claimed that fingerprints of all residents are being taken, and in the future, the lift will only open with the application of these fingerprints. Each resident will be provided with two cards, and guests will need to call and request a card for the lift to operate.
The installation of these devices has created inconvenience for maids and other service providers who use online services in households. They are now required to use stairs to access upper floors, demanding additional compensation. In response to this protest, hundreds of residents gathered to express their opposition to the lift devices. They asserted that they will not allow the installation of the device under any circumstances.
Rajesh Gupta, a resident of Sector 63, mentioned that he has informed both the Chandigarh Police and the Resident Welfare Association in writing about his objection to the installation of the lift device. Gupta emphasized that the lift is a part of his flat, and he will not accept any changes on which someone else claims rights. More than 300 people have submitted written objections, copies of which have been sent to the Resident Welfare Police, Chandigarh Police, and the Housing Board. However, no action has been taken in response.According to Gupta, objections have been sent through the registered post to the Regional Pressure Organization office, but representatives and employees of the Resident Welfare Association are not accepting the registered letters. A resident named Deepika mentioned that every time she approaches the Resident Welfare Association regarding this matter, they respond with abusive language.
