Second Opposition meeting: Congress is not interested in power or PM post, says Kharge

According to sources, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated at a meeting of opposition parties here on Tuesday that there are differences “between some of us” at the state level, but they are not ideological and are not so significant that they cannot be put aside for the sake of people who are “suffering” as a result of the BJP-led government’s policies.

Kharge further pointed to his remarks at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin’s birthday in March this year, in which he stated that the subject of a prime ministerial candidate was “not the question” and that all like-minded parties must unite in the battle “against divisive forces.” “I told you on Stalin’s birthday in Chennai that the Congress Party is not interested in power or the position of Prime Minister.”

The goal of this gathering is not to achieve power for ourselves. According to sources, Kharge stated at the gathering, “It is to protect our constitution, democracy, secularism, and social justice.”

Kharge stated in Chennai that it was critical to confront “divisive forces” as a united front. He had stated that Congress has no say over who will or will not govern, and that the party had made sacrifices for secularism, liberty, and free expression.

According to sources, Kharge addressed an opposition party conference that the ordinary man and middle class are suffering as a result of inflation, the youth are suffering as a result of unemployment, and the rights of the poor, Dalits, tribals, and minorities are being suppressed “quietly behind the scenes.”
