After attending the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Goa, Bhutto Zardari addressed a press conference after his return and declared his trip to India to be a success since it disproved the notion that every Muslim was a terrorist.
“We made an attempt at breaking this myth,” Bhutto-Zardari said.
In his speech at the SCO summit, Jaishankar launched an assault against Bhutto-Zardari, challenging the Pakistani foreign minister’s claim that terrorism shouldn’t be weaponized for diplomatic point-scoring which was taken to be meant at India.
At a news conference hours later, Jaishankar claimed that Bhutto-Zardari’s remarks on the terrorism’s weaponisation unintentionally revealed a mindset.
“As a foreign minister of an SCO member state, Bhutto-Zardari was treated accordingly. As a promoter, justifier and a spokesperson of a terrorism industry, which is the mainstay of Pakistan, his positions were called out and they were countered including at the SCO meeting itself,” Jaishankar said.
In response to a query regarding negotiations with India, Bhutto-Zardari stated that Pakistan was clear that India should foster negotiations by restoring Kashmir’s pre-August 5, 2019 status. He further added that every country except India supported and praised CPEC.
Earlier, Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, and other cabinet members met Bhutto-Zardari when he returned from India on a special Pakistan Air Force aircraft and landed in Karachi.
