Former MP of Chandigarh and Chairman of the Social Welfare Committee, Satya Pal Jain, emphasised the need for equal and respectful treatment for the transgender community during a meeting organised by the Social Welfare Committee of Chandigarh Administration.
Addressing around 60-70 representatives, including committee members and transgender community representatives, Jain discussed the challenges faced by the transgender community in Chandigarh. Suggestions from members included issuing identity cards, providing reservations in educational institutions and jobs, offering pensions similar to Haryana Government in Chandigarh, providing free medical assistance, and offering financial aid for personal businesses.
Members also proposed an awareness campaign to educate society about the importance of this community and their entitlement to equal human treatment. Jain assured the members that he and the Social Welfare Committee would advocate for their demands with Chandigarh Administration officials and make all possible efforts for prompt solutions.
He mentioned that the committee would prepare a detailed report and submit it to the Chandigarh Administration to address the issues faced by the transgender community.
