Sanitation milestone: MC Chandigarh hands over 6 toilets to SHG groups

In a bid to offer clean and inclusive sanitation facilities to the city while empowering communities, MC Chandigarh handed over six public conveniences to SHG groups on Good Governance Day, as part of the Clean Toilets Campaign. This initiative seeks to dedicate the day to sanitation, inclusivity, and community empowerment.
The handover of six Public Conveniences to SHG groups—Sanjh Self Help Group (Transgender), Trisha Self Help Group, Udaan Self Help Group, Swachh Self Help Group, Younger’s Self Help Group (Differently abled), and Guru Valmiki ji Self Help Group (Men)—marks a significant milestone in this campaign. By involving the SHGs, MC Chandigarh aims to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among community members for the cleanliness and maintenance of these facilities. The SHGs will play a crucial role in ensuring the sustained cleanliness of public toilets.

Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra, IAS, expressed her enthusiasm upon the successful completion of the Clean Toilets Campaign. She emphasized that access to clean and hygienic sanitation facilities is a fundamental right for every individual. By involving the SHGs, the MCC not only ensures that these facilities are well-maintained but also fosters a sense of community ownership and empowerment.

The dedicated efforts of MC Chandigarh, in partnership with the SHGs, stand as a testament to their commitment to good governance and sustainable development. This initiative aligns with the national vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aims to create a clean and healthy environment for all citizens. MC Chandigarh extends its gratitude to the SHG groups for their active involvement and partnership in this noble endeavor. With their support and collective efforts, the Clean Toilets Campaign is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of the residents of Chandigarh.

The Clean Toilets Campaign, launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on November 19 and commenced on Good Governance Day, aims to improve sanitation facilities across the country. One key component of this campaign involves the grading of public and community toilets based on predefined parameters.
